Poulin Électrique respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit our website or do business with us, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and what your rights are. It is written to comply with Québec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25.

1. Information we collect

  • Information you give us: name, email address, phone number, address, and the details of your request (quote, service, maintenance) or, if you apply for a job, your résumé and the information it contains.

  • Information collected automatically: browser and device type, IP address, pages visited, date and time of the visit and referring site, through cookies and similar technologies (see section 5).

  • Information in your customer file: installation address, equipment installed and service history. If your Generac generator is connected to our Mobile Link monitoring platform, the unit also sends us its status and alert data.

Our website is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a minor under 14 without the consent of the person having parental authority or the tutor.

2. Why we collect it

  • To answer your inquiries and send you a quote;

  • To schedule, perform, invoice and document our services;

  • To communicate with you about appointments, equipment maintenance and your warranty;

  • To send you our offers and news, if you have consented;

  • To process job applications;

  • To keep our website secure and prevent fraud;

  • To measure website traffic and the effectiveness of our advertising so we can improve both;

  • To meet our legal, tax and contractual obligations.

We do not use your information for any other purpose without your consent, except where the law permits or requires it. We make no decisions based exclusively on automated processing of your information.

3. Your consent

By voluntarily providing your information, you consent to its collection and use for the purposes above. Promotional communications are sent only to people who have consented; you can unsubscribe at any time using the link provided or by writing to us. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions; doing so may limit our ability to provide certain services.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share it:

  • With our service providers, only to the extent needed to perform their work and under confidentiality obligations: website hosting (Squarespace), email and office tools (Microsoft 365), management, invoicing, payment and email-delivery tools, and advertising platforms (Meta, Google). [CONFIRM: final list of providers]

  • With Generac Power Systems, for warranty registration and technical support of your generator.

  • With authorities, where the law requires it or to protect our rights.

Transfers outside Québec. Some of our providers store or process information outside Québec, including elsewhere in Canada and in the United States. Before entrusting personal information to them, we assess the privacy factors involved and ensure, by contract, that the information receives adequate protection. [CONFIRM: privacy impact assessment to document in the compliance register]

5. Cookies and tracking technologies

Our website uses three kinds of cookies:

  • Essential: needed for the site to work (security, forms, language preference). These cannot be turned off.

  • Analytics: tell us which pages are viewed and how visitors move through the site, so we can improve it.

  • Advertising: for example the Meta pixel, which measures our campaigns and lets us show you relevant ads on other platforms.

Analytics and advertising cookies — including any technology that could identify, locate or profile you — are off by default. They are turned on only with your consent, given through the banner shown on your first visit. You can change your mind at any time by deleting cookies in your browser or adjusting its settings; the site works without non-essential cookies.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as needed for the purposes above, and then for the period required by law, including for our accounting and tax records and warranty obligations. Once those purposes are met, it is securely destroyed or anonymized. [CONFIRM: specific retention periods — compliance register]

7. How we protect it

We apply reasonable security measures proportionate to the sensitivity of the information: access control and logging, encrypted communications, backups, and staff awareness. No system is entirely free of risk. In the event of a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious injury, we notify the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec and the people concerned, and record it in our incident register.

8. Your rights

At any time, you may:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you;

  • Ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, incomplete or ambiguous;

  • Withdraw your consent to its use or disclosure;

  • Ask us to stop disseminating it or to de-index it, in the cases provided by law;

  • Obtain the computerized information you gave us in a structured, commonly used technological format (portability);

  • File a complaint with our Person in charge of the protection of personal information.

Send your request in writing to the contact details above. We respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (www.cai.gouv.qc.ca).

9. Links to other websites

Our site may link to third-party sites (for example Generac or our financing partners). We are not responsible for their practices; please read their own privacy policies.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Changes are posted on this page with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we will inform you by any appropriate means.
